Plot Summary

Kabali (Rajinikanth) is a gangster who fights for the rights of Tamil workers in Malaysia. He is betrayed by his aide Tamilmaaran (Kishore) and framed for a massacre at a temple that kills many people, including his wife Kumudhavalli (Radhika Apte). He is sentenced to 25 years in prison and his gang is taken over by his rival Veerasekaran (Kishore), who works for a Chinese mafia leader Tony Lee (Winston Chao).

After 25 years, Kabali is released from prison and meets his old friend Ameer (John Vijay), who tells him that his wife may be still alive. Kabali also learns that he has a daughter Yogitha (Sai Dhanshika), who was raised by a Malaysian don named Tiger (Nassar). Kabali sets out to find his wife and daughter, while also confronting his enemies who want him dead. He is helped by Jeeva (Dinesh), a young loyalist, and Thamizh Kumaran (Kalaiyarasan), the son of Tamilmaaran who regrets his father's actions.

Kabali finds out that his wife is living in India under the name Meena and has lost her memory due to a bullet injury. He brings her back to Malaysia and tries to make her remember their past. Meanwhile, Tony Lee plans to kill Kabali and take over the Malaysian drug market. He hires an assassin named Yogi (Sai Dhanshika), who turns out to be Kabali's daughter. Yogi realizes her true identity and joins forces with Kabali to fight against Tony Lee and Veerasekaran.

In the climax, Kabali kills Tony Lee and Veerasekaran in a shootout at a factory. He reunites with his wife and daughter and celebrates with his gang. However, in the final scene, he is shot by an unknown gunman while sitting in a restaurant.

Review

Kabali is a film that showcases Rajinikanth's charisma and acting prowess as a gangster with a heart of gold. The film has some powerful dialogues, emotional scenes, and stylish action sequences that please the fans of the superstar. The film also has a strong social message about the plight of Tamil workers in Malaysia and their struggle for dignity and justice.

However, the film also suffers from some drawbacks, such as a weak screenplay, slow pace, lack of humor, and inconsistent tone. The film tries to be realistic and gritty, but also indulges in some typical Rajini tropes that seem out of place. The film also has too many characters and subplots that make it confusing and lengthy. The film's climax is also abrupt and ambiguous, leaving the audience unsatisfied.

The film's music by Santhosh Narayanan is catchy and apt for the mood of the film. The songs "Neruppu Da" and "Ulagam Oruvanukka" are especially popular among the fans. The cinematography by Murali G is impressive and captures the locales of Malaysia, India, Hong Kong, and Thailand well. The editing by Praveen K.L could have been tighter and smoother.

The film's cast does a commendable job in their respective roles. Rajinikanth carries the film on his shoulders with his charisma and performance. He portrays the emotions of anger, pain, love, and joy convincingly. Radhika Apte is graceful and expressive as Kabali's wife. Sai Dhanshika is impressive as Kabali's daughter and assassin. Winston Chao is menacing as the main antagonist Tony Lee. Kishore, John Vijay, Kalaiyarasan, Dinesh, and others provide adequate support.

Conclusion

Kabali is a film that is worth watching for Rajinikanth's fans and for those who like action drama films with a social message. The film has its flaws, but also has its moments of brilliance. The film is not a typical Rajini entertainer, but a different attempt by the star and the director. The film may not appeal to everyone, but it is a film that deserves respect and appreciation.
